Anna Paquin’s run on True Blood as Sookie ended in 2014, but American audiences can expect to see her lead another show very soon.
WGN America has acquired the rights to the Paquin-lead series Bellevue, the network announced Monday. After its February debut in Canada, the original series commissioned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation will premiere on its new network in early 2018.
The series centers Paquin’s Annie Ryder, a small town detective trying to solve the murder of a transgender teen while also confronting the fact that a mysterious person from her past might be the murderer. Allen Leech (Downton Abbey) and Shawn Doyle (House of Cards) costar as her ex-boyfriend/boss and the town’s police chief, respectively. Created by Jane Maggs and Adrienne Mitchell, the show was relatively well-received but was canceled in May.
