After five days of intense Counter-Strike action, we now know that it will be FaZe Clan and Fnatic facing off in the final of IEM Katowice 2018.
FaZe Clan made it to the final day of the competition by taking down Astralis in a repeat of last year’s grand final.
While last year FaZe just lost out, this year they dominated the Danish side with a convincing 2-0 win.
FaZe took 16-10 wins on both Cache and Overpass to secure their place in the final, and never really looked that troubled by Astralis, who had a fairly poor performance by their standards.
In the second semi-final of the day Fnatic took on Team Liquid, with both teams surprising more than a few people by getting this far in the competition.
Liquid have looked great since adding Keith “NAF” Markovic while Fnatic finally seem to be finding some form with their current roster that has struggled a little since forming last year.
Much like the first semi-final, this was quite a swift 2-0 victory, this time in favour of Fnatic.
The Swedish side took a 16-13 win on Inferno before cruising to a 16-7 win on Mirage to bring a swift end to the day.
Now Fnatic will face off against FaZe clan in a best of five final starting at 5pm CET / 4pm GMT today.
The winner will walk away with $250,000 and of course the iconic IEM trophy.
FaZe undoubtedly go in as favourites, as their all-star roster has won more than a few events over the past months and are considered to be the best team in the world by many.
However, Fnatic has been on a good run this event, they have only dropped one map to G2, and have already beaten FaZe 2-0 in the group stage.
While we can’t predict who will win the final, we can say that this is sure to be a special event.
The Spodek Arena is expected to be completely full, and the crowd has certainly been getting behind both teams, so it will probably be very loud.
This is not something you will want to miss.
