The wait is nearly over and soon Rainbow Six Siege fans will be able to get their hands on the new Outbreak mode on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Since being unveiled at the Rainbow Six Siege Invitational last month, Outbreak has only been available to play on the Rainbow Six Siege test server.
The point being that Ubisoft can iron out any problems or bugs with the game ahead of the full release.
Outbreak, for those who missed the news last month, is effectively a timed event for the game, which introduces a sort of ‘zombies mode’ for Ubisoft’s popular first-person shooter.
“From swarming Grunts to burrowing Rooters, the Outbreak enemies will test your tried-and-true skills in a whole new way,” Ubisoft teased previously.
Thankfully though the wait is almost over as Outbreak mode is set to arrive TOMORROW, March 6th.
Keep reading for the full rundown of everything you need to know about Outbreak mode ahead of launch.
OUTBREAK RELEASE DATE/TIME
Ubisoft has said that the game will be coming to the games live servers for all PS4, Xbox One and PC players on Tuesday, March 6th, which for anyone who hasn’t looked at a calendar, is tomorrow.
Ubisoft has also confirmed that Outbreak will be available for free to owners of Rainbow Six Siege, so no need to worry about buying it as extra DLC.
They haven’t however, outlined what time the update could be arriving, but based on past releases, we expect that it will be staggered and released slowly over a couple of hours.
We suspect that this will start with the PS4 at 2PM, then Xbox at 3PM and finally PC at 4PM.
“A few days ago, a mysterious space capsule crashed near Truth or Consequences in New Mexico. It turned out to be carrying an exotic parasite, the Apex, which infected the area and turned the town’s populace into monsters. The Quarantine Zone is the only thing keeping it contained but it will not last for long. If the parasite gets out, it would be a disaster of global proportions. Millions would die. Rainbow’s mission is to enter the devastated town and destroy the parasite’s roots before this happens.“
OUTBREAK – NEW FEATURES
Outbreak is adding three exclusive new maps that are more open than the standard PvP maps.
But you will want to make the most of them while the timed event is active because we can’t see these maps being playable outside of Outbreak any time soon.
These maps are only playable in Outbreak, so do not expect to find them in multiplayer any time soon
What Ubisoft say:
Three new exclusive coop-oriented levels are playable in Outbreak. These maps are bigger and more open than PvP maps, with sizable sections entirely outdoors. Being designed for coop, they are also more linear and feature a clear sense of progression. Nevertheless, the destruction and multi-path approach that are iconic to Rainbow Six Siege are still very much present. Will you go in guns blazing, or quietly sneak through a side door.
OUTBREAK – OPERATORS
Not every operator is available to use in Outbreak as according to Ubisoft, “Not every Operator has the right skillset for this mission.”
However Ubisoft has said which operators you will be able to use, and thankfully it includes the two new operators who join the game with Operation Chimera.
“The development team had to make an informed choice in who would be playable in Outbreak. We made a selection of Operators who are the most adapted and relevant for this specific game mode, from a design standpoint.”
These playable operators include:
- The two new Operation Chimera Operators
- And last but not least, our faithful Recruit!
THE OUTBREAK COLLECTION
Ubisoft has said that throughout the duration of the 4 weeks that Outbreak is active, players will have the option to earn an exclusive collection of “cutting edge cosmetics”.
You will find this gear in the Outbreak Packs.
“In line with our promise to you from the beginning, the Outbreak Packs will not provide you with any gameplay elements, and will contain cosmetic items only.” Ubisoft said.
“The Outbreak Collection contains 50 cosmetic items ranging from Rare to Legendary quality. The items include weapons skins, headgear, BDUs, charms and a unique Elite skin. They are found in Outbreak Packs, which each contain one item.
“There are no duplicates. The Outbreak Packs are available for purchase only for the duration of the Outbreak event. Finally, four Outbreak Packs are granted to each player for free upon starting Outbreak for the first time.
