David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of the Emmy-winning HBO collection Recreation of Thrones, are writing and producing a brand new collection of Star Wars movies, Lucasfilm confirmed to E! Information Tuesday.
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” stated Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
Benioff and Weiss’ movies might be separate from each the episodic Skywalker saga and the not too long ago introduced trilogy that’s being developed by Star Wars: The Final Jedi‘s Rian Johnson. “In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss stated in an announcement, referencing George Lucas‘ unique movie, Star Wars: A New Hope. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
No launch dates have been set for the brand new movies. Maybe extra importantly, the movie studio stated, “There have (thankfully) been no sightings of White Walkers around Lucasfilm.” (Not but.)
In November 2017, a month earlier than Star Wars: The Final Jedi hit theaters, Lucasfilm introduced Johnson can be writing and directing a brand new trilogy (with Ram Bergman onboard to provide). “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Final Jedi. Star Wars is the best fashionable mythology and we really feel very fortunate to have contributed to it,” Bergman and Johnson instructed E! Information. “We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”
J.J. Abrams, who wrote and directed 2015’s Star Wars: The Power Awakens, will return to supervise the third and closing chapter of the present movie collection, set for launch on Dec. 20, 2019. The final season of Benioff and Weiss’ Recreation of Thrones, in the meantime, will air someday that yr.
