Wonderful Beasts director: Dumbledore ‘not explicitly’ gay in follow up

It’s been simply over a years because J.K. Rowling shocked fans by exposing Hogwarts’ cherished headmaster Albus Dumbledore was gay, and was even in love with the infamous dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald throughout his youth till the 2 had a rather impressive falling out.

With the next movie in the Fantastic Beasts franchise presenting a young Dumbledore for the very first time (played by Jude Law) and concentrating on the fantastic wizard’s pursuit of the fugitive Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in Paris, fans have questioned: Will Dumbledore’s sexuality belong of the story? Or will it when again, like in the Harry Potter movies, not be resolved?

According to The Crimes of Grindelwald director David Yates, this year’s follow up, a minimum of, will not straight reference Dumbledore’s sexuality.

When asked if the movie makes it clear that Dumbledore is gay,

“Not explicitly,” Yates responded. “But I think all the fans are aware of that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other’s ideas, and ideology and each other.”

Yates then included a bit more about exactly what Dumbledore resembles in the brand-new movie: “He’s a maverick and a rebel and he’s an inspiring teacher at Hogwarts. He’s witty and has a bit of edge. He’s not this elder statesman. He’s a really kinetic guy. And opposite Johnny Depp as Grindelwald, they make an incredible pairing.”

All of this isn’t really to state that Dumbledore’s sexuality will not ultimately be resolved in the 3 extra Fantastic Beasts follows up prepared after Crimes Film writer and Harry Potter developer Rowling has actually formerly hinted that it will be at some point. “I can’t tell you everything I would like to say because this is obviously a five-part story so there’s lots to unpack in that relationship,” Rowling stated at an interview 2 years earlier. “You will see Dumbledore as a younger man and quite a troubled man — he wasn’t always the sage…We’ll see him at that formative period of his life. As far as his sexuality is concerned … watch this space.”

Rowling very first exposed Dumbledore was gay throughout a 2007 look at Carnegie Hall, informing fans, “I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was.”
